Nat Geo!

So, as the Strudel approached me this morning, the first glimpse that I saw was a "portrait" view, which as I looked at this the first thing that I saw was a really happy really goofy alien-like creature who decended to planet earth to tell off color jokes.

So as I looked at the landscape version it was so OBVIOUS that this was an image if Hillbilly FISHING.  (For those of you who haven't seen the Nat Geo specials on this strange activity it is when you actually wade through muddy river water, dive down, and attempt to catch large fish by jamming your entire arm into the mouth of the fish.

Jigsaw

OK - So I totally missed the mark on this one.  As I was presented today's masterpiece I had just read something on CNN about the Debt Ceiling Wars (which I happen to think is the stupidest display of politics that I have ever witnessed) so my subconscious was already thinking politics.  Isn’t it amazing how one’s individual experience and thoughts really shape perception?

So my interpretation required a bit of focus and concentration and what I came up with was some mythical creature about to bulldoze New Hampshire based on posturing regarding the Debt Ceiling  (if you closely – you really can see New Hampshire!)

Have to say I was disappointed to see that it was simply Puzzle Pieces!  (It is a pretty cool design though)

Rose is a rose is a rose is a rose......

I really thought I had it today - it was obvious that it was a strudel art interpretation of Pierre-Auguste Renoir's series of floral still life's focused on the roase.......

Well - I was REALLY close today!  I had the wrong medium and the wrong country and the wrong gender - but I did have the right content.   Turns out this was a Strudel interpretation of Gertrude Stein's famous 1913 poem Sacred Emily.

Mike Doughty

So when I first looked at this one - I was 100% sure it was an illustration of my dinner menu for later today.  Mouth actually watered as I daydreamed about a gigantic steak and a fantastic french onion soup.....

I totally forgot about the Mike Doughty show tonight at the Watercolor Cafe.

WE ARE THE CHAMPIONS!!!

Is the the silhouette of a little bunny that Mikko is about to tear into pieces?

No!   It si the victory sign after waging the war with pantry pests.  We have finally won!  (The back story on this post is related to the Die F*@kers Die post)

Happy Days Are Here Again!

The oppressive summer heat has arrived and everyone from the New York Metro area is suffering from the oppressive heat.  Well everyone except for the grass outside thanks to the singular efforts of someone who will go unmentioned.

As I was presented my daily strudel (my "Daily Bread") and saw the musical theme, my interpretation was Beethoven's Ode To Joy (I could actually picture the individual strands of grass celebrating!)

Well, what you will learn about Strudel Art is the amazing nuance utilized by the artist.  If you look really carefully you will notice that the composition above is written in B-Flat Major and not C Major so it would be impossible to be Ode To Joy.

B-Flat Major - well everyone would know that it is Milton Ager's Happy Days are Here Again!

Die F*@kers Die

Well - - - - - I though it was pretty obvious - "Just Say No To Spades" - having no idea why I should be against one of the four suits, never heard of anyone having in issue with a deck of cards!

Well - the reality is that Pantry Months have been digging in pretty deep and we needed to take some agressive action!   Like really agressive action - lots of death, lots of destruction, and in this context - it is painfully obvious the resemblence to the dreaded pantry moth!

Finally - A Strudel Again.....

Well, I've been without strudel for EIGHT days now, but who's counting.   Sooooo you can only imagine how excited I was this morning when I finally had a Strudel again that I jumped the gun as there as a hint to go with this morning's masterpeice......   I guessed before I got the HINT!  Stupid, Stupid, Stupid!

I thought it was a Campbell's Soup Can with the label removed....

Had I listened to the hint, "Inspired by time spent in Montreal," I would have surely guessed that it was a steaming cup of joe as served by Tim Horton's.   Had I only waited!

The Dog Days of Summer

Is it a view from the 5 yard line of a CFL Football Field (a field so large that you can actually see the curvature of the earth)?

No:   It's a ground level view of a water sprinkler at work covering the back lawn in droplets of water as we perceiver through the dog days of summer!

Saint Jean Baptiste Day......

Well - It was my fault today that the photo wasn't that great - - - - but the story and the concept was worth publishing.

(one of the challenges with Strudel Art is the temporary nature of the piece.... as the heat of the toasted Strudel melts the icing much of the detail is quickly lost...... in some ways this is quite sad...... I think I'll leave the philosophical discussion of the temporary nature of existence for some other time....)

Anyway - today's Strudel Art is an Ironic depection of Saint Jean Baptiste Day by using the Canadian Flag as the celebration symbol.

Hail To The Chief

As I will be in Washington DC this comming Sunday and Monday, it is only appropriate that the Washington Mall inspiried today's art....

A Tribute to Salvadore Dali

Unfortunately this photo was taken with a camera phone and not a real digital camera so a ton is lost due to the poor quality of the image...

I was so confident that what I was looking at was the stage for a small jazz ensemble...... an upright bass on the left, a small drum kit in the middle and a random cable at the top....

Was so surprised to learn that I was looking at a Tribute to Salvadore Dali:  A Melting Clock on the left, his signature mustache and goatee in the middle with a plume of smoke!

VEGAS BABY!!!!

 So I'm off to Vegas today - - - - - - very appropriate that today's Strudel Art had a Vegas Theme....
This on is pretty obvious!
Welcome To Sin City
